orphan

critical orphan Indexing and reachability

A page nothing links to is discovered only through the sitemap, crawled rarely, and treated as unimportant — because in the site's own structure it demonstrably is.

What indexgap reports

The finding reads:

critical orphan no internal link points at this page

How to fix it

Link to this page from the section's hub pages. Make the anchor descriptive, not “read more”.

How it behaves at scale

Collapsed when it fires template-wide. If it appears on 90% or more of the pages — or of one language version — of a site with at least 20 pages, it is a property of the template and is reported once, with the count, instead of once per page.

Suppressed on JavaScript shells. A page with no text in its source HTML would trip this check for a reason that is already reported as js-shell, and repeating it four times is not four times as informative.

Finding it

pipx install indexgap
cd your-project
indexgap init
indexgap check

Then indexgap brief turns every finding on this page into a work order in indexgap-briefs/, with the thresholds the result has to satisfy and the command to check it.
