long paragraph

info long-paragraph Content quality at scale

A block that runs long is hard to quote, and quoting is how AI search surfaces a source. Shorter paragraphs also survive the narrow column of a phone screen, which is where most of the traffic reads them. The threshold is not a style rule, it is about extraction. A retrieval system takes a passage whole or cuts it, and when it cuts, the sentence that carried the answer can end up split from the sentence that qualified it. Paragraphs sized to be quotable are the cheapest insurance against being quoted wrongly.

What indexgap reports

The finding reads:

info long-paragraph … paragraph(s) longer than … characters — a block like that is hard to quote whole

How to fix it

Break the long paragraphs up with subheadings.

How it behaves at scale

Collapsed when it fires template-wide. If it appears on 90% or more of the pages — or of one language version — of a site with at least 20 pages, it is a property of the template and is reported once, with the count, instead of once per page.

Finding it

pipx install indexgap
cd your-project
indexgap init
indexgap check

Then indexgap brief turns every finding on this page into a work order in indexgap-briefs/, with the thresholds the result has to satisfy and the command to check it.
